I am now in Greensboro Alabama working for a group called HERO (Hale Empowerment and Revitalization Organization). There mission is to bring back Greensboro and Hale County. Hale county is part of the black belt and is slowly decaying. There are numerous abandoned buildings and homes and the community is very poor. HERO is helping build homes, helping youths obtain their GED's and helping home owners manage their money. My job is primarily doing construction. I helped give a local thrift store a makeover and I also worked on restoring an old historic school. A lot of the people that work in HERO are architects and I have also had the opportunity to design and build two tables and four benches that now sit behind the office in the courtyard. I am currently building a kitchen table that I designed and it will go into one of the HERO houses. I had forgotten how much I enjoy designing and building things. So far this is my best project.
I am also on a new team this round. The Denver Campus mixes up the teams for third round. I am on a team of 9 (5 girls and 4 boys). One of the girls graduated UNH with me last year. I didn't know her then. All in all I enjoy this team because there are more guys and older people. That's all I have for now, I will write soon. I hope everyone is doing well.
